PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Students at East End House site decided to explore how media influences people’s experiences of body shaming and racism. After choosing a topic and gathering information by hearing from local experts and researching online, students implemented their plans. One solution was to create art that was sold to a local non-profit that educates the community about body shaming. Another was to analyze the messages in social media, television, and music and then create posters to educate peers about the presence of racism in popular media. Students also set up a fundraiser where they brought in various game consoles and charged $3 to play. Proceeds were given to the East End House Middle School program to purchase sports equipment.
